Charlotte Groenen

I am Charlotte Groenen and I am 20 years old and the Community Activities Commissioner. I was born and raised in Nijmegen, in the Netherlands. Before coming to Maastricht, I studied French and German in Brussels. After deciding to study International Business back in my home country, I quickly noticed the difference in student life and atmosphere. As I have always enjoyed organizing events for peers and being involved in initiatives, I was pleasantly surprised to see all parties, symposia and other events students were organizing for other students, here in Maastricht. I directly felt at home.

One of the main parties organizing events and hereby adding value to the life of students was SCOPE. What made this organization even more attractive to me was the way in which they did it. Combining a welcoming and warm atmosphere and image with a very professional way of working, seemed like a great learning environment to me. After having been a member of the Partylovers committee, signing up for Community Activities Commissioner seemed like the logical next step.

For the next year, I have naturally set myself a number of goals. The main goal of my position is providing an amicable environment for all students. To do so I am planning on building a lot of bridges. I want everyone to feel comfortable, make friendships and create memories. To achieve this goal I will work on the Communities Project (where new students first are pooled in smaller groups), our incredible Alumni database and furthermore on organizing social events for both our active and our passive members. One of the main challenges I will be facing is working together with many committees and coordinating a lot of different projects at the same time. However, this challenge is an opportunity for me to develop myself and help enrich the student life at the SBE, for everyone.
