Symposium 2019: Living and Working in a Scarce World
''Living and Working in a Scarce World''
How do you envision our world to be in 20 years? Where do you want to work? How does your daily life look like?
Today in our globalized world, it seems like our demands and wishes are endless and like all of them can be satisfied forever. However, our resources are scarce and cannot endlessly cater our limitless wants. Often this problem seems distant and not directly related to our own life. But it is relevant; our generation is shaping the future of the world.
The topic of our symposium “Living and Working in a Scarce World” aims to raise awareness of the scarcity, society and businesses are facing. This can be related to raw materials but also to human labor. Both of these categories influence us as humans and are especially relevant to us, students, who represent the prospective workforce.
By splitting up the topic of scarcity into two pillars, the challenges we are facing in our living and our working environment, we want to create a comprehensive view of the chosen topic. We want to discuss together with you what we can do to create a world that we want to live in!
At the same time, we want to target the interest of the students of Maastricht University and the School of Business Economics. We hope to stimulate a debate about the topic of scarcity and challenge a reflection on our society and economic system. Moreover, we aim to provide solutions by discussing possible ways that lead to more sustainable consumption and handling of resources.
