On October 29, a group of 25 students left for Berlin for the 5th edition of the SCOPE Start-Up Tour.
The goal of this trip was to get a taste of the vibrant start-up scene of Berlin and get a peek of the behind-the-scenes of being an entrepreneur.
During the 5-day trip, we visited a total of 9 companies, ranging from well-established to very new start-ups.
On Wednesday, we had the chance to visit Cavalry, Auto 1, Mindspace and Choco App, which gave us some interesting insights into their companies and the challenges faced by start-ups. We ended the day with a successful Alumni evening, where the students had the opportunity to network with former UM students around some drinks and food at “Paolo Pinkel”, in the centre of Berlin.
On Thursday, our group went to the start-ups Kulau, SumUp and PickPack, whose entrepreneurs shared the story of their journey from UM students to successful builders of renowned start-ups.
The SCOPE Start-Up Tour committee, in collaboration with Berlin student association START, organized on Thursday night a successful “Fuck-Up Night” event, where well-established entrepreneurs were invited to share their biggest professional mistakes. Over 100 people attended the event where our students got some practical and inspirational tips for their future career.
Friday, N26 and Studydrive welcomed us into their office. Then, the Start-Up Tour committee had organized a closing dinner at Burger restaurant “Hans Im Glück”, where everyone enjoyed some good food and drinks. The night ended with a Pub Crawl in the numerous bars of Berlin and a fun night out.
On our last day in Berlin, the students had some free time to explore the city, be it its shopping streets or many historical buildings and monuments.
On Saturday night, the students got back to Maastricht, with a lot of new insights into the start-up scene and inspirations for the future.
