Academic Commissioner
Testimonials
My name is Tizian, I am the Academic Commissioner at SCOPE for the 2024-2025 academic year. My role is to ensure that all our academic events run seamlessly by leading nine committees. I communicate with our internal and external partners daily to guarantee success. Let me give you a quick rundown of the committees I work with.
International Economic Orientation & International Financial Orientation
I am planning two incredible trips for second-year students. These trips will take place during skills period six and are being organised by two committees in collaboration with two professors from the university. We want to ensure that students have a unique and valuable learning experience. The committees have planned one trip that is more financially focused and the other more economically focused. I am responsible for organising all of the operational aspects of the trips, including flights, hotel stays, social activities, and convincing companies to participate in the events. In the past, we have travelled to some fantastic destinations such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brazil, the US, Canada, Japan, and many more. This year, we have chosen Istanbul for IFO and Baku for IEO.SYMPOSIUM
The SYMPOSIUM is one of the largest academic events of the year, typically held in October or November. The event features academic speakers and workshops, as well as discussions and debates with participating companies. The committee selects a theme around which the event is organised. In recent years, the SYMPOSIUM has been a great success and is an enjoyable event to organise.Academic Series
This committee comprises two sub-committees: the Academic Workshop and the Academic Lecture. Both sub-committees work together to plan a workshop and a lecture on a common topic every period.
The Academic Workshop committee organises personal skills-enhancing workshops every period, which include workshops on Excel, PowerPoint, Influencer Marketing, and many more. As a committee member, I can collaborate with the other members to organise creative and enjoyable workshops.
The Academic Lecture aims to invite interesting speakers to Maastricht every period to talk about specific topics ranging from cryptocurrency to leadership skills.Consulting Case Challenge
One of the newest academic events organised by SCOPE involves finding five to six local companies currently facing strategic issues. As an organiser, your role is to put them in contact with previously selected students who will act as consultants. The event is mainly focused on coaching, so the students have the opportunity to meet with academic and professional coaches. This is a joint venture between SBE and SCOPE, and you will be organising together with a committee of six people to handle all operational aspects of this two-month event.Business Analytics
A new academic committee has been formed with the aim of providing students with a platform to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of business analytics. The committee is currently organizing a series of events, including lectures, workshops, and a business case/hackathon. These events are designed to help students learn practical skills, network with industry professionals, and gain hands-on experience in their respective fields. The committee has the freedom to plan and execute different events, which makes it interesting.Business Case Challenges
BCC is a new initiative that was started last September by Scope Actives. The committee organizes workshops and trainings in how to solve case competiions organized by Companies. Moreover, we try to bring students together so they can form a team and sign up for a competition together. Since the Committee is still very young, there is a lot of room for you to form it during your board year. During the past semester, we established a cooperation with the ICC Adivisers.
Paris Trip
The Paris Trip is also a new committee that has existed since this year. It started as a cooperation with the Netherlands France Chamber of Commerce to visit Dutch Companies in Paris. However, for this year's edition, we decided to visit different companies and universities in Paris to try out the location.
Events I did on my own:
Brussels Trip
The Brussels Trip is a Day Trip where Students visit Institutions of the European Union. This year we visited the European Parliament and the European Commision. Since it is only a day trip it is very doable to organize it alone, so no committee is needed.
Career and Development Days
The Career and Development Days were organized by the university before, so this year was the first time it was organized by me. The CDD is a two-day event with different kinds of workshops and presentations to equip students with necessary skills like Power BI or Chat GPT. For the future it might be a good idea to recruit a committee to organise the event.
I hope I have provided you with a brief overview of the academic events that you could organize as the next Academic Commissioner. You also have the liberty to add other interesting academic events to SCOPE’s event portfolio. If you want to learn more about my daily operations as an Academic Commissioner on the SCOPE Maastricht board, feel free to contact me via email: academic@scope-maastricht.nl :)
I look forward to hearing from you
