Treasurer
Testimonials
My name is Nicoleta Cojocaru
and, for the academic year 2024/2025, I had the chance to join the SCOPE board
as the Treasurer. I am responsible for all financial matters by guiding
financial, accounting and budgeting decisions. Some people call it one of the
most powerful student positions in Maastricht! The tasks are pretty diverse and
centred on keeping the association on track. The daily operations range from
bookkeeping to banking transactions, filing VAT returns, and communication with
your fellow board members and all active members. In addition to that, you set
the master budget for the whole association, which influences all events, trips
and SCOPE operations. You will have the chance to meet all committees and
allocate the budget according to what you perceive as valuable. Of course, we
have clear accounting rules that guide you through keeping the associations'
financials on track and help you in all decisions. During the transition
period, you'll get clear guidance on applying all tools we use, but don't
worry, it's not too complicated, and you'll always have your predecessors, the Committee of Financial Oversight and an external auditor who can answer your questions. A typical day of the SCOPE Treasure is very
flexible but usually starts at 9. You record the latest transactions and answer
E-mails. Afterwards, the board gathers for board and committee meetings, and
you ensure all financials are updated, and all questions are answered. The rest
of the day usually involves reaching out to active members and communicating
with our daughter associations. Sigma Investments, Maastricht Finance Society,
Royals Cup, Maastricht Lions, VECTUM, and Women in Business belong partly to
SCOPE and record their finances through us. Therefore, I schedule meetings with
the board members of those associations to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Bi-annually, we disclose our financial statements at the General Member
Assembly, short GMA, and you'll get the chance to present your work and guide
members of the association through the financial situation (trust me, it's
really rewarding!).What should you bring?
The position does not require much prior
accounting knowledge, as you will learn everything you need while applying it.
Attention to detail and communication skills for meeting committees are part of
your daily work, but you'll grow into that position. Some interest in those
fields is a significant advantage in keeping you motivated and contribute to
your learning process. Why should you join?
The SCOPE Board Treasurer position has been one of
the most insightful, teaching, and fun things I've done in my entire life. You
get to meet and work with so many great people from all over the world. You
develop personally and apply your prior and new knowledge right away. Moreover,
you get to represent SCOPE at official gatherings learn what it means to
work in a team, and guide the financial standing of one of the biggest study
associations in Europe!Feel free to reach out to me via treasurer@scope-maastricht.nl. I am happy to answer all your questions and look forward to meeting you.
